After releasing his anticipated new album, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, last Friday (June 16), 2 Chainz dropped by the L.A. Leakers show on Power 106 to talk about his latest collection of street tales, almost getting kicked out of NBA Finals and his take on mumble rappers.

The interview opens with Titty’s story of shelling out almost $25,000 for tickets to the Finals and had to flex his pimp muscle after being escorted to some bad seats.

“Walking to my seat, they took me the long way. I sit right next to (Golden State Warriors player) David West on the bench,” he said. “I thought I paid for these seats over here. I came to watch the game and I came to be watched. It’s hard for me to see. These people are my size and taller….I guess I’m in the camera people’s way, and I’m trying to see.”

He continued, “I wanted to see the game…They automatically blackballed me. Now, you’re a Golden State fan.”

Keeping his poise but still taking his stand, Deuce said that at the end of the night, “I ended up being happy.”

Between dope fiend stories of pushing hard, the Atlanta rapper details his album. “It’s some epic trap music on there. It’s some motivational…’It’s a Vibe’ is on there. ‘Good Drank’ is on there so it’s some familiarity on there. But at the same time, it’s some new vibes on there, great production. And I know I outdid myself on this one.”

When asked if he thought that Nicki Minaj‘s verse on “Realize” would stir up some ill feelings from Remy Ma.

“I never had any problems with Remy or Papoose,” he said. “I’ve known Nicki forever and we’ve shared moments on stage together. So for me, people just need to understand (that) I’m trying to get a record done for my project. I could’ve micromanaged the situation and dug into it…I don’t know if I’m right or wrong. I was just trying to do a dope record with Nicki Minaj.”

During a segment of the interview, Chainz was tossed a series of words and instructed to say the first word that came to his mind. When the DJ said “Atlanta,” the College Park rapper replied “lit.” To “strip club,” he answered jokingly, “littler.” He answers to “mumble rap” was, “second to being best.”

“Mumble rap second to being the best? What does that mean?”

“You said the first thing that came to my mind…we all have adjusted, reacted and seen where it can go.”

He then offers a theory behind the foundation of mumble rap. “I’m from places where y’all may consider it coming from,” he explained. “Sometimes, it’s like if you ever get somebody from out of town and you see people from Atlanta conversating, you be like ‘what the hell y’all just say? When Atlanta people get around Atlanta people, it be like ‘I don’t know what the hell.’ I get it all the time.”

Of those considered to be forerunners in the mumble rap subgenre are the Migos, a group with whom Chainz recently delivered a new video for “Blue Cheese.”

In the video, 2 Chainz, Quavo, Takeoff and Offset stand around a well-lit runway with beautiful women modeling different attire as they walk on the runway set in the center of the projects.

In the Daps-directed video, 2 Chainz raps: “My side chick got pregnant by her main dude and I’m fended/I called, she ain’t pick up, I text her back, bitch you stingy/I’m in all black like a ninja, chain got influenza/Walk in the trap house, use my Cartiers for credentials.”
