Issa new campaign with some familiar faces. Adidas ups the ante with three major players in hip hop’s liaison with high-profile fashion brands this year. The sportswear brand tapped Young Thug, 21 Savage and Playboi Carti to be the faces of its line of “Crazy” sneakers for Adidas Originals.

“Fearless enough to be undefined,” reps the mindset behind the modeled kicks including the Crazy 8 Primeknit ADV and Crazy 1 ADV. And that phrase is one that these artists live by. Just peep their style or music. As Playboi Carti alludes to in “wokeuplikethis*,” they are the trendsetters not followers.

Part of the Adidas Originals gig included joining the cast of the brand’s latest short film, aside its other ambassadors like James Harden and Kendall Jenner. To an altered version of Frank Sinatra’s classic “My Way,” the Adidas models sought out to “reinvent history.” In open jackets with no shirts underneath, the rappers are given the roles of royalty basking in a oasis full of palm trees and magic powers, topped with a glass ceiling. Keen with the idea of nobility, 21 Savage posted a picture from the shoot with his two castmates and labelled it, “KINGS.” It is as if the brand places them in the ancient Egyptian exhibits of a museum. An Ankh and chains are donned, and a statue resembling the cat goddess stands in the background among the foliage. Thugger wraps his arm in a yellow snake, who seems quite tame. Instead his charming spells are aimed at the audience.
