Classic, attitude, comfort, swag—words to describe what it feels like to put on Adidas’ Stan Smiths, but when I see the newest version of the iconic footwear, it seems like Adidas already knew what I’d feel before my feet would ever meet their soles. Shock.

Stan Smith Shock Primeknit Shoes, to be exact. That’s what Adidas is calling their pink masterpiece for women—even though the trademarked leather heel patch is the only part that hints to you that you’re wearing Stan Smith tennis shoes. While other the variations of the shoe have held the Stan Smith dotted Adidas stripes or some form of, the Shock follows the suit of the classic shoes’ more recent Primeknit selections.

It has neither the original nor a remix of the Three Stripes. It also fits in with the less standard models of the tennis shoe with a mid-cut. But the most significant difference visually of the Shock’s Primeknit upper is its laceless nature, making it a slip-on sneaker. With its asymmetric stitching and sock-like silhouette, creating the tagline must have been simple for the Adidas team, “The Stan Smith as you’ve never seen it before.”
