Airbnb in Hot Water Again After South African Artist Shoved Down Stairs By Host

South African filmmaker and visual artist Sibahle Steve Nkumbi and her three friends were only a few minutes late for checkout at an Amsterdam Airbnb last Saturday (July 14) when the host called her husband to the property. Upon arrival, the white man became verbally abusive, spewed racial slurs at the women and pushed Nkumbi down a flight of stairs. The attack caused a concussion and several bruises. And now, the unnamed 47-year-old Dutch white man now faces a possible attempted manslaughter charge.

Nkumbi’s friend, Zanele Muholi, a popular South African artist and activist, posted the physical assault to Instagram. The video shows the man yelling at the women, telling them to get out of his property. He then pushes Nkumbi headfirst down a long staircase.

She captions the video: “Amsterdam. One of my friends/ Inkanyiso crew members was pushed downstairs by the Airbnb owner where we stayed. He threw their belongings out … for few mins late checkout. She collapsed and ended up in hospital. She suffered internal injuries and bruises. Am so angry with this I couldn’t even sleep. This is racism and can’t be justified… violence on black bodies as you can see in this video.”
