Amber Rose Responds to Kodak Black’s Comments on Complexion

It is no secret that colorism has been running ramped through the  Black community since slavery when Blacks were separated based on their skin color. The lighter you are the prettier and better you are because you are closer in complexion to the white “superior” race. Kodak Black has expressed this deeply rooted and distasteful mentality in an interview about race and complexion saying that he not like dark-skinned women mainly because light-skinned women are more sensitive and dark skinned women are too tough.

But on Saturday (July 1), Amber Rose took to her Instagram to offer words of encouragement to dark skinned women across the globe by telling her personal struggles with her complexion. Like many other light-skinned, biracial women who grew up in predominately black communities, Rose was subjected to color-based bullying because she was not dark-skinned like the other girls in her schools and neighborhood. She secretly longed to be darker like them and even tried tanning to appear darker in efforts to fit in.

She admitted that she was jealous of their tough demeanors and outspoken personalities that America constantly criticizes dark skinned women for having. She also acknowledged the privilege that she has by being light-skinned in the modeling industry. She often found herself questioning the producers on the set of videos why there weren’t any dark-skinned women in the videos. Rose’ main objective is to ultimately unify women regardless of race, color, or social status especially in a society that tries to keep women divided and fighting. She ended her rant with a strong message of unity and growth.

“We need to stick together as women and educate society, educate men like this with black mothers! Not let men/people dictate what type of woman is in style or more beautiful. We are all smart and capable of being great! No matter where we come from or what complexion we are! If no one tells you you’re beautiful I’m here to tell you that you are! 😍 let’s change the stigma I love you all – Muva”

Needless to say, her message was well received among her fans and hopefully men like Kodak Black will not only learn to love themselves beyond their physically exterior but also learn that women are far more than their exterior features.
