Detroit is driving force in art, and Adidas Originals combed Motor City streets for famed creatives for a fall/winter campaign set in their hometown. “To be from Detroit, you gotta have a lot of heart, you gotta have a lot of pride and you gotta have a lot of talent,” says Angel Haze. The sportswear brand and its EQT team perched on porches, crashed restaurants and encroached on local spots with her and fellow rapper Danny Brown, musician Jay Daniel and sculptor/art jeweler Tiff Massey.
Each artist brought an element to the EQT shots. Haze has the tendency of “staying true,” or a mass of honesty and heritage exhibited in her music. Adidas outfitted the rapper in the EQT Racing ADV. “Be true to you, whoever you are,’” she chimed in on Instagram with a cut of the campaign. And Brown in the EQT Support 93/17, he expresses “work ethic” among his love for his city. “I would never leave cause it’s just so much a part of me,” he says. “It’s like taking a shark out of water. It can’t live in the sand.”
Similar sentiments are conveyed by Adidas’ additional guests from the D. “I wanna create larger than life sculptures for the landscape,” says Tiff Massey in the EQT Racing ADV as the collection of unique buildings inspires her “craft.” Jay Daniels has his own work in mind too, and the joint existence of his passion and the passions of others further describes the city he calls home. In the EQT Support 93/17, He reflects on his production methods, utilizing a medley of influences and genres to form works of “innovation” right there in Motown.
The fall/winter EQT colors are due Aug. 24 and can be purchased through Adidas and select retailers.
