The cast for Black Panther just keeps getting better and better.
Marvel Studios announced today that they’ve added A-list actress Angela Bassett to their already star-studded cast for the highly anticipated superhero film that is slated for a February 2018 release. According to the message posted on their website, Bassett, who is currently starring in American Horror Story, will play Ramonda, mother of T’Challa, otherwise known as Black Panther.
Joe Robert Cole is co-penning the script with Ryan Coogler (Creed), and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing the movie with production is expected to start in the first quarter of 2017.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba and Chadwick Boseman, who will take on the starring role after making his outstanding debut as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War.
Black Panther marks Bassett’s second comic book movie appearance after playing the villainous Amanda Waller in 2011’s Green Lantern. The American Horror Story actress was also a huge fan favorite to play Storm in Bryan Singer’s X-Men back in 2000, but the role ultimately went to Halle Berry.
In addition to saving the world with superheroes, Bassett recently reprised her role as Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs in “London Has Fallen.” On the small screen, she was just seen on “American Horror Story: Roanoke.” She also has the mini-series “Close to the Enemy” bowing soon.
Black Panther will open the doors to Wakanda on Feb. 16, 2018.
