Atlanta Mayor Pushes to Make March 22 Shawty Lo Day

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has started a petition to make March 22 Carlos “Shawty Lo” Walker Day in Atlanta.

The A-town rap veteran first burst on the scene nationally in 2005 as part of the rap group D4L with their smash single “Laffy Taffy.” Lo then went on to solo success with hits that included “Dey Know,” Dunn Dun” and “Foolish” and projects like Units In The City and I’m Da Man.

He was killed last September when his 2016 Audi sped off the road and hit two trees before catching on fire. He was 40 years old. March 22 marks his 41st birthday.

Lo’s posthumous album RICO is set to be released on March 24 and his team has just released the new single “B.I.G.” from the project  featuring Boosie BadAzz and Alexis Branch.

300 Entertainment previously announced  that they will be releasing the project and previously dropped the first single “My Love” featuring R&B crooner Lyfe Jennings. RICO will also feature the Bankhead OG connecting with Ralo, OT Genesis and two of his kids, Quando and Keke.

“He loved his community and the children and did what he could to help whoever was in need without ever asking for recognition,” Reed wrote on the petition to get the holiday passed on Change.org. “So now I ask that we recognize him and make his birth date an honored day so the legend of Shawty Lo never dies and the city will always remember his name with respect and honor.”
