Atlanta Police Makes Biggest Marijuana Seizure in City’s History

Atlanta police recently announced the seizure of a truck carrying almost 6,000 pounds of weed. Authorities estimate that $9 million bust is the biggest in the city’s history.

Atlanta police got a tip that a cargo truck carrying the cannabis was moving through the city and then alerted state police. A traffic stop was conducted, and 29-year-old Jose Ibarra and the truck were taken into custody. Inside the truck were 208 bales of the green leaf, weighing 5,824 pounds.

“We think it’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest, marijuana seizures we have ever had in the city,” said Deputy Chief Darryl Tolleson. Atlanta Police Sergeant Warren Pickard told WGCL-TV, “I’ve never witnessed this amount of marijuana.”
