‘Atlanta’ Season Two Delayed Until 2018

Fans of FX comedy series Atlanta will have to wait until 2018 for Season 2 of the critically acclaimed comedy. The network recently made the heartbreaking announcement at the Television Critics Association today, Deadline reports.

The year-long setback is due to lead actor Donald Glover’s grueling upcoming schedule. Glover (also known as Childish Gambino) recently landed the role of Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo Star Wars movie. The role was previously portrayed by Billy Dee Williams. Filming will begin this year and will be released in 2018.

“Lando’s a big deal to me,” he said at the Golden Globes on Sunday. “It was literally the first toy I ever got.”

At the Globes, Glover took home two awards; Atlanta won best comedy series and he was named best actor in a comedy series.

During Glover’s acceptance speech for Best Television Series, Glover thanked the city of Atlanta and also the group Migos.

“I’d like to thank the Migos—not for being on the show, but for making ‘Bad and Boujee.’ Like, that’s the best song… ever.”

The Migos appeared in an episode in the breakout show, in which Quavo appeared as a “connect” who shoots a guy in the middle of the woods.

Applauded as one of the best new comedies of 2016, Atlanta also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Glover was recently nominated for a WGA Award and DGA Award. The show also ranked as basic cable’s most-watched new comedy in three years in Adults 18-49 and the highest-rated comedy in FX Networks’ history.
