Best Picture Flub Robs ‘Moonlight’ of Moment, Barry Jenkins’ Speech Steals the Show [Watch]

After an amazing night of achievements for people of color at the Oscars, Hollywood vets Warren Beatty and Faye Dunnaway still managed to ruffle a few feathers after mistakingly announcing the wrong winner for the “Best Picture” category.

According to published reports, Beatty and Dunaway were given the wrong envelopes after mistakingly announcing La La Land as the winner for “Best Picture.”

“I am sorry, this was not meant to be a joke,” Beatty said. “I was given the wrong envelope and I saw Emma Stone for best actress in La La Land and announced it. That’s why I looked at Faye for so long and you because I was unsure.”

After La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz had passed the golden trophy to Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins, the director gave a heartfelt speech about achieving your dreams and the importance of encouragement from his cast.

“Very clearly, even in my dreams this could not be true,” Jenkins said. “But to hell with dreams! I’m done with it because this is true. Oh, my goodness. There was a time when I thought this movie was impossible because I thought I couldn’t bring it to fruition, I couldn’t bring myself to tell another story. Everybody behind me on this stage said, ‘No that’s not acceptable,’ so I just want to thank everyone behind me, everybody out there in that room because we didn’t do this, you chose us. Thank you for the choice.”
