Big Sean Says Lil Wayne “Changed Rap Forever”

When Big Sean and Lil Wayne met up at Powerhouse 2017 in San Bernardino, CA last night (May 7), the Detroit rapper had to express his public appreciation for Weezy via an Instagram post.

“Man I’ll never forget what u said bout me on my song ‘Deep’ bro on some real shit,” Sean captioned a pic with Wayne. “U changed rap 4ever, God bless you! #C5.”

Sean’s gratitude is due to Wayne’s comments on their collaboration “Deep” from Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise album. Wayne raps on the track, “I feel like Sean, don’t get enough shine/ Is it because he ain’t got the tattoos?/He ain’t throwing up signs/Well, let me throw up mine.”

While Wayne may feel that Sean isn’t getting enough shine, the city of Detroit recently shed some light on his, as Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan presented Big Sean with the key to the city last month to a crowd of about 100 children, CBS-affiliate WWJ reports.

Recognized for his Mogul Prep initiative, which promotes higher education to area youth, the 29-year-old rapper is the youngest to receive the honor.

“It’s only given out to our most special citizens so they know that they’re always in the heart of Detroit,” Duggan said. “Since I’ve been mayor, I’ve given out two of these. The first was to Berry Gordy when they bought Motown: The Musical here. The second, I gave out to Stevie Wonder, when we renamed the street he grew up […] And now we’re going to give out the third […] Sean this is your reminder that every time you leave Detroit, you can always bounce back.”
