Name: Bruno Mali
Reppin’: Miami, Fla
Genre: Rap
With a rap name like Bruno Mali, one would expect the Miami MC to be dipped in designer threads and spitting about the finer things in life. But the buzzing Haitian-American rapper, who hit a lick with his 2016 song, “HA,” is definitely reporting live from the gutter.
Born in Freeport, Bahamas, and raised in Miami, Mali is from the section of the city that doesn’t show up on the glossy brochures that showcase what all South Florida has to offer. His turbulent Little Haiti neighborhood is more likely to end up on an episode of First 48.
The 27-year-old Floridian first tried using rap as a way out in 2010, when he released the single, “Lay Low,” under the rap name, Young Spook. The song garnered a buzz regionally and had area music fiends wanting more. He responded by dropping the Local Addiction mixtape in 2012.
After the project was released, the young spitta parted ways with the label he was attached to at the time and played it low-key on the rap scene for the next couple calendars. Following the hiatus, he formed his own imprint, Blocc Money Billionaires Music Group, and rebranded himself as Bruno Mali Kidd.
So far, the second time is proving to be the charm. His 2016 single, “HA,” a remix of Juvenile’s smash of the same name, turned into an underground hit. As well as working with artists like Ace Hood and Zoey Dollaz, he performed on a tour date with Rick Ross and later collabed with Rozay on the single, “Monkey Suit.”
The next thing on his plate is his upcoming project, M.A.D.E., which stands for Money, Attitude, Direction and Education, which should be dropping later on this year.
