While on his Be Encouraged tour, Chance the Rapper took the opportunity to call out several record labels and he’s now apologizing to one in particular.
Chano took to his Twitter to formally apologize to Dr. Dre and his Aftermath Entertainment label after calling it “Can’t Do Math Entertainment” on stage at his show a few months prior.
Chance tweeted, “I want to formally apologize to Dr. Dre, and all of Aftermath for publicly disrespecting their hard work and contributions to music. When I went on the Be Encouraged tour I made LED content to satirize and degrade major labels. made the mistake of including Imprints which not only dulled my overall point of trying to uplift artist…But also singled out artist-owned ventures that have only worked to progress the culture.”
Chance the Rapper has made a career defying the system set by recording labels and firmly believes that major record labels attempt to cheat artists out their money. Not signing hasn’t hindered his success in anyway. He made history when took home a Grammy award for his album Coloring Book, a project that was not sold and available on soundcloud.
Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint has been responsible for some of the most successful hip hop artists in the game. Artists like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar have all benefited from Dre’s undeniable and legendary business savvy.
