Since coming up big at the Grammys last Sunday winning Best New Artist, Chance the Rapper has had record label A&Rs running behind him with contracts in hand like kids missing the school bus. But the ever-successful independent MC intends on remaining a free agent.
According to the New York Post, Chano is turning down $10 million offers from record labels.
An insider told New York Post, “Every label is still trying to get him. He’s making too much on his own … He was turning down $5 million advances before, and now it’s like $10 million.” The source added, “He may do something with Apple, but not a label per se … He is going to remain independent.”
Chance’s streaming-only album Coloring Book won Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Performance for “No Problem” at the Grammys. Since, the Chicago rapper’s Spotify streaming numbers have increased 206 percent since the Grammys, according to The Boombox.
After his Grammy performance of “How Great” with Kirk Franklin and a full gospel choir, streams for the single increased by 461 percent one hour after Chano took the stage.
He is also planning an upcoming Spring tour. See dates below.
