Taraji P. Henson is rocking a fresh new look for the top of the year. For the January issue of fashion publication, W magazine she talks about her role as mathematician Katherine Johnson in the film Hidden Figures. The feature showcases the actress’ contribution to female empowerment in film and tv in the past year. She’s rocking her natural hair for the interview and looks flawless!

Henson talks about Hidden Figures, a film staged in the 60s about three African-American women working at NASA who were the master minds behind the first American orbit around Earth. In a preview of the interview, she speaks on her experience playing Katherine, specifically the stark contrast between the character and herself.
“ … to play Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who figured out a way to get NASA astronauts into space, I had to be believable as a math expert—and I failed math in college…Even with two tutors, I still failed…on set, they would have a professor there to try and teach me. I said, ‘Show me what I have to write and I’ll memorize it, because I’m not gonna get it.’ Take that, math! I won: I became an actress.”
Taraji is most popular for her roles in Baby Boy, Hustle and Flow and recently, Empire. She has earned tremendous notoriety for her work in the industry featuring in spreads from Entertainment Weekly to People Magazine and has earned various awards from BET, Golden Globes and NAACP for her talent.
