Chilli of TLC Honored at Women of Style Power Dinner
With her regal visage, captivating beauty, sculpted physique and shiny tresses that flows down past her shoulders like a black waterfall, the cocoa-coated cutie known as Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas is the quintessential embodiment of beauty and style. Therefore, it was apropos Kontrol Magazine would pay homage to Chilli (one-third of one of the best-selling female groups of all time) during their “Women of Style Power Dinner” at the Suite Food Lounge in downtown Atlanta last week.
Chilli, a member of the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning trio TLC, was recognized by the publication as the perennial fashion and beauty icon. Kontrol creator and chief fashion stylist, Julian Lark, established the awards dinner to illuminate women in entertainment who are powerful pioneers in the areas of fashion, style and beauty.
A constellation of cuties and celeb friends came to help celebrate this momentous occasion with Chilli, including former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia Roberson, singer and reality TV star Meelah Williams, LeLee Lyons of SWV, DJ Steele and singer Dondria. Chilli also ensured that she brought members of Saving Our Daughters, a non-profit organization that partners celebrities like Chilli with teenage girls to help them fight raise their self-esteem and to fight bullying and school violence.
Chilli has maintained her alluring figure throughout the years via her ceaseless dedication to exercising and “clean eating.”
She also touched upon the marriage of music and mentorship. “This is very near and dear to my heart because I’m all about encouraging young girls to love themselves and to not use bad situations as an excuse not to be successful, and to be a person who can achieve anything,” she said, as she talked about blending music and philanthropy.
“It’s easy to blend the two because that’s just who we are,” she added. “We are not putting out music that puts out one vibe and then our lives are imitating another. You know, they kind of parallel one another. So that’s why giving back is so easy for me. I’m just being myself and doing what comes naturally for me.”
