On Tuesday (Jan. 24), President Donald Trump took to Twitter to share news about his big plans for national security and his plans to help remedy the “carnage” going on in the city of Chicago.

In the tweet, Trump claims that the homicide rate is up 24%  and vows to send the feds to the city if things don’t get better soon.  Although the tweet sent a ripple of reactions from people all over, Chi-town native Common revealed his hometown doesn’t need a federal takeover,  they need each other.

“For me, I feel like to help Chicago, you know, we’ve got to take care of our own,” Common told  TMZ . “Within the community, we’ve got to do things. It’s a lot of people out there already organizing and doing things. We need our state and local people to do things.”

In regards to President Trump’s mentality about Chicago, Common said it’s disruptive and unhelpful. “

We need our stay-local people to do things,” Common said.  “We don’t need that type of mentality, so I am not focused on the president right now. I’m focused on helping the people in the city and how we can do it.”

Common isn’t the only artist speaking out about the actions of the newly sworn in President, Black Eyed Pea member Taboo had harsh words for Trump after he signed two executive orders that will allow construction on the Dakota and the Keystone XL pipelines to move forward.

The Natve American MC said that he never felt the fight was over after the seeming victory under President Obama because he knew that Trump’s inauguration was destined to start with drastic and “unpredictable” change.

“We knew that there was still a big war against injustice”, Taboo told TMZ. “We felt like we needed to do whatever we can, because some people were like, Yeah, we did it! Everybody can go home now!’ but it’s never over, especially when we’re dealing with this man who has come into office. He’s unpredictable. You’ve got to be on guard.”.
