Comedians D.L. Hughley and George Lopez just paid tribute to their late comedic brother Charlie Murphy who died after a long bout with leukemia on April 12.

In honor of their friend, they got identical tattoos that read “Darkness” in honor of his famous skit of his shenanigans with R&B funk legend Rick James who christened Murphy with the nickname that was revealed during sketches of the Chappelle’s Show.

Charlie most famously co-starred on the Chappelle’s Show alongside Dave Chappelle in some of the show’s most quoted and memorable skits, including the recants of the nights Charlie partied with both Rick James and Prince.

The eldest Murphy also co-wrote some of Eddie Murphy’s movies, including Norbit  and Vampire in Brooklyn, and co-starring in cult classics The Boondocks and Black Jesus and CB4.

Charlie’s wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, died in 2009 from cervical cancer. They had 2 children, and he had another from a previous relationship.

Charlie was 57.

Most recently, Murphy toured with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on “The Comedy Get Down” before taking ill.
