Dave Chappelle is hitting the silver screen once again.

After a three-year hiatus, the comedian has signed on for a new project that is seemingly the perfect welcome back.

According to published reports, Chappelle has joined the cast of Warner Bros’ A Star Is Born, the remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga (as Stefani Germanotta) that Cooper is directing. Shooting reportedly kicked off at Coachella last month and production is now fully underway.

As reported by Deadline, Chappelle will play “Noodles,” an old friend of Jackson Maine (Cooper), the country music star who is on the brink of decline when he discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Germanotta). When her career eclipses Jackson’s own, he finds it increasingly hard to handle his fading glory.

Like the 1976 classic with Barbra Streisand, this version is said to be a romantic comedy, and with the likes of Chappelle, it should be nothing short of hilarious.

Chappelle last fall signed a deal with Netflix for three comedy specials, the latest step in his return to the spotlight after exiting his Comedy Central sketch series Chappelle’s Show in 2006.

The remake is currently being filmed and is due to hit theaters in 2018.
