Just when we thought things were all good with DMX, here comes trouble. Things are looking worse than ever for the New York rapper. According to TMZ, the “Get It on the Floor” rapper is in a serious amount of debt and in big trouble with the IRS. He has been charged with 14 counts of tax evasion.
It has been reported that The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York City concealed DMX’s income from the last several years, dating all the way back to his time of dropping hits like “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” and “Where the Hood At?” in the early 2000’s. The rapper’s tax debt is now about $1.7 million in the red to the IRS.
DMX avoided paying taxes for so long by living mostly on cash. He avoided personal bank accounts, accounts of surrogates, and even business managers. Prosecutors reported that he listed his income in 2011 and 2012 as “unknown”, but brought in $353k and $542k. DMX even avoided paying taxes by asking for a new check from producers of the reality show, ‘Couples Therapy’ after they cut him a check with withheld taxes.
If DMX is convicted on all 14 counts of tax evasion, he is looking at 44 years in prison. He turned himself in Thursday evening (07/13/17) and will be officially indicted this morning (07/14/17) before a judge.
