Jay Z

This year marks the 20th anniversary since the release of Jay Z’s classic debut album Reasonable Doubt which was released on June 25, 1996. FOX 5 News in New York celebrated the release with a documentary on the classic release which includes interviews with Roc-A-Fella co-founders Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, as well as DJ Clark Kent, Emory Jones Ski Beatz and DJ Premier.

The interview reveals how the Roc-A-Fella name came about as well as the hurdles they had to cross in order to make Reasonable Doubt. One obstacle included Mary J. Blige  being featured on their collaboration “Can’t Knock The Hustle” but her label wouldn’t clear her for the video because Jay wasn’t known yet.

The documentary also details how The Notorious B.I.G. and Jigga’s friendship emerged and the competitive nature that fueled both of them. One of B.I.G.’s songs even pushed Jay to record three songs on the album that made him feel like I have to outshine this dude. Check it out now.
