Black Twitter Drags Elizabeth Banks For Filth After She Incorrectly Calls Out Steven Spielberg

Looks like Elizabeth Banks should learn to never say “never”…

At a recent appearance at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, actress Elizabeth Banks had some words of criticism for Steven Spielberg and the lack of female lead roles in his films. “I went to

“I went to Indiana Jones and Jaws and every movie Steven Spielberg ever made. And by the way, he’s never made a movie with a female lead. Sorry, Steven. I don’t mean to call your ass out, but it’s true.”

There is only one problem…that statement is NOT true, Elizabeth.

Steven Spielberg is the director of 1985’s The Color Purple, the 11 time Oscar nominated film that starred Whoopi Goldberg, a woman, as the lead character. As expected, once news of Bank’s statement made it to the internet, #BlackTwitter reacted in true #BlackTwitter fashion.

Banks was dragged so tough, that she issued an official apology for the oversight, stating:

“I framed my comments inaccurately. I want to be clear from the start that I take full responsibility for what I said and I’m sorry. When I made the comments, I was thinking of recent films Steven directed, it was not my intention to dismiss the import of the iconic #TheColorPurple.”
