Happy Birthday DJ Scratch, 10 of Scratch’s Most Influential Records [Listen]

Today (June 21) marks the 49th birthday of DJ Scratch. Hailing from the borough of Brooklyn in the city of Rotten Apples, the three-time Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum record producer has laid down tracks for some of the biggest names in rap music, including 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, DMX, The Roots and Q-Tip.

Making an early name for himself as the official DJ for EPMD in the late 1990s, Scratch (real name George Spivey) eventually maneuvered his way into becoming the in-house DJ for three nationally aired TV Shows: Hip Hop Hold Em’, Fox 5’s Uptown Comedy Club and B.E.T.’s Rap City, The Basement, as well as film credits with Juice, The Original 50 Cent, Backstage, Fly By Night, Rhyme & Reason and Spike Lee’s Bamboozled. He was also commissioned by Coca-Cola to produce an feature in their first DJ commercial, “3 DJs.”

Last year, Scratch helped fill in for A Tribe Called Quest’s DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad on their final album We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service.
