Twitter has been known to do a lot of things, including shut down products and create the latest viral memes but now Twitter is being credited with casting the latest Ava DuVernay film.
According to published reports, following “dramatic” negotiations at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Netflix emerged victoriously with putting things in motion to ensure production kicks off in 2018 for a new film starring Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o after Twitter hashtagged the concept based off of a photo of the two at a fashion show.
The film, which is being described as a “buddy movie,” initially had the green light from the stars, director, and scriptwriter back in April. Ava DuVernay will direct and Insecure star and creator Issa Rae has reportedly “in talks” to write the script. It’s unclear, however, if the film will exactly follow the proposed plot that emerged on social media in April, but for a few lucky fans, the very fact that the idea came to fruition is pretty incredible.

While that project is getting started, DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time is slated for a 2018 release, while Rae’s hit show Insecure will premiere its eight-episode second season July 23.
