Rapper/music mogul Jay-Z is currently in talks to buy all of the unreleased Prince music that was unearthed at Paisley Park after the singer’s death, according to TMZ.
The celebrity news site reported that the Jigga Man flew Prince’s sister, Tyka, and her husband, Maurice Phillips, to the Big Apple several weeks ago to discuss details of the purchase for an offer in the neighborhood of $40 million.
The 40 mil has not been confirmed by Jay’s camp, but it has been reported that Hov is attempting to purchase all streaming rights for his streaming service Tidal, which exclusively released released Prince’s last album, Hit n Run Phase Two in December of 2015. Late that summer, Prince pulled all of his music from streaming sites, writing on Twitter, “Spotify is co-owned by record labels, who hold 20 percent of the company’s stocks.”
Prince said previously of digital music platforms, “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”
But…there’s a catch. Tyka is reportedly Prince’s only full sibling and has to get approval from all the brothers and sisters as well as the trust that is managing the estate. Prince died from a fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park recording studio and home in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57.
