Jay Z Presents LeBron James With Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year Award, Snubs Phil Jackson
Last night LeBon James was in Brooklyn to receive the coveted Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year Award and his OG, Jay Z, was on hand to present his young bull the honor.
Running down his list of accomplishments on and off the court, Jay Z stated,
“Titles in Miami, then he returned to his hometown to lead his Cleveland Cavaliers to their first championship in franchise history. That was superhuman though. But aside from the fierce competitor and dominating basketball player that is LeBron James, who is LeBron James? The individual. Philanthropist. The man LeBron James is even better than the basketball player is hard to believe.
I’ve witnessed his work with Boys & Girls clubs, building basketball courts in less fortunate areas like where we grew up in like Brooklyn here, reaching back and giving out opportunities – he’s a dedicated family man who married his childhood sweetheart, Savannah, has three lovely children, the son who honors and worships his mother Gloria, the friend who put his ‘posse’ in position, I know. We know where we come from, we do understand where we come from and the only difference between us and someone who has their MBA – is opportunity. …
You messed around and got a triple-double in real life. I wrote that joke myself. He is a true friend, my friend, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award, ladies and gentlemen, please rise, the Sportsperson of the Year, King James.”
Riding for his lil’ homey, Jay Z also made note to address Phil Jackson’s comments about King James being a diva and calling the NBA star’s business partners his posse.
