Joe Budden Says Nicki Minaj Reign Is Due to Previous Lack of Competition [Watch]

Joe Budden and DJ Akademiks took the gloves off and went head to head for Complex.

On the latest episode of their series, Everyday Struggle, Joey expresses his thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s mostly sole position as a woman in the rap game and why he feels that the emergence of up and coming artists like Cardi B and Young M.A. are signifying the end of her reign.

“Now, there are other women around so all that big shit you’ve been talking when there was no women, now we looking,” Joe said. “Now, we looking for you to perform. Now is the time for you to be at your best musically. Not brand-wise. Musically. My girl is the biggest Nicki Minaj fan in the world and I haven’t heard her play a Nicki Minaj song in awhile.”

The Slaughterhouse MC also made it very clear that Nicki’s accolade of surpassing Aretha Franklin is not only expected in this day and age but made the assertion that the numbers can be manipulated to achieve the success if the rules are not clearly defined. Budden also addressed Nicki bringing Young Money comrades Lil Wayne and Drake into her verbal beef with Remy Ma, calling it a fake attempt to show solidarity.

“Get that shit out of here, I hate that,” Joey said. “Who was there for Wayne when he was having seizures and shit? I ain’t see a picture then. I don’t want to see it now that you may need that conglomerate to get back. I don’t want to see that now. I want to see you float on your fucking own, Nicki. Best woman rapper in the world. I want to see her do it alone.”
