Julio Jones Hires Dive Team to Recover His Lost $100,000 Earring

Imagine dropping 100 bands on one earring. Now imagine your precious jewel drowning below the deepest depths of murky waters. Well, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones doesn’t have to imagine. That’s the exact unfortunate turn of events that happened for him recently while jet skiing on Lake Lanier, a large reservoir north of Atlanta, NBC affiliate station WXIA 11 Alive reports.

Flying across the waves, his jet ski hit a boat wake and belly flopped into the water. Jones and the jet ski went down. But when he resurfaced, the Alabama native was without one of his diamond earrings.

He said the earring was worth north of $100,000. So he did what anybody else would have done. he hired a team of divers to try and find the high-priced ice in the 65-feet-deep waters. A jeweler and friend of Julio Jones reportedly paid the dive team $500 to locate it.

“Yeah, it was worth a little bit,” Jones said.

The former player with University of Alabama, Jones was drafted by the Falcons sixth overall in 2011. While playing for the Crimson Tide, he helped lead the team to an undefeated 14–0 season during his sophomore year, including a win in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. With the Falcons, Jones has been invited to four Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2015 after leading the league in receiving yards.
