After an eight-day stay at UCLA Medical Center, “sources connected with the family” of Kanye West told TMZ that his “downward spiral and eventual mental breakdown” was due to a deviation from his prescribed dosage.
According to the celebrity news site, the Chicago native has long been taking medication for “psychological issues.” It is not known whether or not he stopped taking the medications altogether or just took different amounts. Since his release, Kanye is said to be under outpatient treatment.
Contrary to previous reports, however, the platinum rapper/producer did not return home to his wife and kids. A Keeping Up with the Kardashians source told PEOPLE that the two are currently living in separate households for medical reasons.
“Kanye isn’t at home with Kim and the kids,” the source says. “He is instead receiving outpatient care elsewhere with a medical team. Kim still seems concerned but is supportive. They don’t know for how long Kanye will need outpatient care.”
Although the couple is physically apart, Kardashian West continues to stand by her “best friend and soulmate.”
“There are frustrations and problems, like any relationship, but they love each other deeply,” a source told PEOPLE.
He checked out of the hospital last Wednesday under the care of personal physician Dr. Michael Farzam.
