Katy Perry Launches New Androgynous Fragrance Embracing Individuality

Katy Perry’s new fragrance labeled Indi shines a light on how being an individual should be embraced and no longer feared. The androgynous bottle is both partly male and partly female in appearance; Perry classifies her new scent indeterminate sex, meaning anyone can wear it.

“I wanted it to be about individuals being different, together,” explains the pop diva who was introduced to us back in 2007 with the hit song ” I Kissed a Girl.” The hit single was the first sign of her true originality.

From coming into the industry captivating our eyes with her striking style to capturing our ears with her music, Perry has now decided to steal another one of our senses with her new fragrance, which not only expresses Perry’s take on her own gender role but welcomes any and everyone who has ever felt different or out of place.

After chopping her luxurious hair off into an audacious short style and steering away from the typical feminine wardrobe, Perry wanted to create a fragrance that wasn’t for just one group or type of people. She did exactly that with her new fragrance Indi.

For her social media fan base, she highlights models from all walks of life on her Instagram page: an attorney and blogger, a DJ and creative director, an activist and curvy model and a transgender person.

The individuals all came from different backgrounds. Obstacles in their lives have made them who they are today. Different backgrounds don’t mean the wrong background especially in gender equality which Perry continues to show support. “That’s why I wanted to feature an eclectic group of women that all have something different to say,” says Perry, “but whom people could identify with.”
