Kendrick Lamar is back with a new visual, this time for his infectious hit “ELEMENT.”
The video, directed by Jonas Lindstroem and the Little Homies (Lamar’s directing alias alongside Dave Free), features a paralleled begin showcasing the first element of water before shifting to fire and earth.
Featuring the similar richly symbolic visual collage style of “Humble,” Element” utilizes striking slow-motion shots to drive home the cinematic points that Lamar is trying to convey. The clip showcases violence comprised with sequences that include building burns, a father teaching his son to fight, a group of men shadowboxing, and police chasing a suspect countered with serene and religious-themed images of nuns, a couple in love, and a young boy standing quietly in the pouring rain.
The new “ELEMENT.” visual follows the videos for “HUMBLE.” and “DNA.” of which starred Don Cheadle alongside Kendrick, all of which appear on his critically album DAMN.
In other K. Dot news, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem teamed up to pay homage to Prodigy for Peter Rosenberg‘s “Real Late” show on Hot 97.
Opening the tribute mix, Eminem and Kendrick both paid respect by rapping their favorite line from the late MC, before Em wrapped up the segment saying his goodbyes.
“I just want to say rest in peace to Prodigy. We love you homie. Hip-hop loves you,” said Eminem. “You will forever be missed.”
