After pleading guilty to felony gun possession charges today (April 26) in Cook County, Ill., Kevin Gates has been sentenced to 30 months in prison, TMZ reports.

As previously reported, Gates was re-arrested just as authorities were about to release him from a Florida jail after serving a 180-day sentence and extradited to Illinois. A warrant had been issued after he failed to appear in court on gun charges stemming from 2013.

The celebrity news outlet says that the Baton Rogue, La. rapper, who has been in jail since March 30, will be transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In a statement to TMZ, Gates’ lawyer Herschel Rush said the charges carried a maxium of 10 years in prison, so the team is “very pleased with the result of 30 months.”

Even while on lock, he managed to drop brand new single “What If” three weeks ago. On the heated track, he spits:

“Making calls to the plug/ I fell off then got up/ I’m standing tall no matter what/ Real nigga never budge/ Thinking y’all shall not judge when I stood in front the judge/ Media they telling lies about me that don’t matter much/ Hey now, turn it up.”
