Kylie Jenner Under Fire Again for New Fashion Line

Kylie Jenner Under Fire Again for New Fashion Line

Kylie Jenner is back on the list for her latest installment of cultural appropriation and size exclusivity with the release of her new fashion line.

On Wednesday (Jun 7), Jenner unveiled her new bathing suit line complete with camouflage styles tops and bottoms. Hardly an original, Black Twitter and fashion enthusiasts quickly schooled her on the Destiny Child’s origin in their legendary Survivor video, but also for not including plus-sizes in her newer fashion lines, like she did initially.

The reality television star released her new clothing collection “The Kylie Shop” and it was immediately dubbed for being almost identical to 90’s iconic group’s outfit. It started with a tweet from Perez Hilton, insinuating that she started the trend.

But black Twitter quickly came to set the record straight with a series of tweet giving recognition to Tina Knowles, who designed Destiny’s Child’s outfits.

This isn’t the first time Jenner has received backlash for her obvious emulation of Black culture. When she tried to credit herself for donning the “wig” trend, folks gave her a history lesson on Black hair and cultural appropriation but it seemingly got worse.  From the accreditation, she received by mainstream media for making “cornrows” fashionable to the “Kylie Jenner lips” and overdone tan,  Jenner has violated on numerous occasions.

But her attacks do not stop there. Many other fans are upset that her clothing lines are excluding plus-size items. Even though most women in America wear a size 16 or above according to Revelist.com This is the second time Jenner has snubbed plus sizes from her clothing lines. Her current line stops at a XL or roughly a size 14. Earlier this year, Jenner was criticized for her “THICK!” line released in February that only catered to a certain kind of thick that fits into a size XL, as well.

The only item from her new line that is in extended sizes is the Camo Dad Hat. I guess Jenner will never learn her lesson in cultural appropriation nor size exclusivity.
