Mahershala Ali is winning when it comes to both the big and small screen.

According to published reports, the Moonlight star has signed on to star in the upcoming third season of the HBO series True Detective. Casey Bloys, president of programming at HBO, made the announcement during the network’s summer Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation.

Despite the signing on of Ali, many are still waiting for the official word that the struggling series will continue on for the third season.  Bloys stated that he’s confident that True Detective Season 3 will happen, especially after reading five finished scripts. “They are terrific… I was very impressed and excited,” Bloys said to Deadline. “We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go.”

In other Mhershala Ali news, the 4:44 visual featuring the actor as a boxer for the song “Adnis” has finally been released. As previously reports JAY-Z tapped the star to play a role in the then secret campaign to promote JAY-Z’s new album 4:44. The album has since been released and the full-length version of the visual is available to stream via Tidal.
