Migos Clear Up Statements About iLoveMakonnen: “We Love All People, Straight or Gay”

After being caught up in a firestorm of criticism regarding iLoveMakonnen’s sexuality in a Rolling Stone profile, Migos have since released an apology and statement to clear up any misconceptions about their remarks.

In the article, Migos seemed to suggest that Makonnen’s coming out should not have been supported.

“They supported him?” Quavo asks, raising an eyebrow. “That’s because the world is fucked up,” says Offset. “This world is not right,” Takeoff says.

In the new statement, the trio clears up , writing, “We feel the world is fucked up that people feel like they have to hide and we’re asked to comment on someone’s sexuality.”

In the profile, group member Quavo also says that Makonnen’s sexuality “undermines his credibility.”

“We ain’t saying it’s nothing wrong with the gays,” says Quavo. But he suggests that Makonnen’s sexuality undermines his credibility, given the fact that “he first came out talking about trapping and selling Molly, doing all that.”

He frowns. “That’s wack, bro.”

Text posted to the group’s official Twitter account says how they were more disappointed that Makonnen had to hide his sexuality rather “staying true.”

“We are all fan’s of Makonnens music and we wish he didn’t feel like he ever had to hide himself,” the text reads. “We have no problems with anyone’s sexual preference. We Love All People, Straight or Gay. And we apologize if we offended anyone.”

iLoveMakonnen revealed that he was gay last month with a string of tweets. “As a fashion icon, I can’t tell u about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out,” he wrote in one tweet.
