Mitchell & Ness Releases No. 12 Chicago Bulls Jersey Worn by Michael Jordan Only Once

In honor of that historic 1990 Valentine’s Day game when the Chicago Bulls took on the Orlando Magic and Michael Jordan wore No. 12 instead of his signature No. 23, Mitchell & Ness drops the classic collectible throwback today (Feb. 14).

The All-Star player sported the No. 12 jersey after his coveted No. 23 jersey was stolen from the visitors’ locker room.

Jordan initially refused to wear the No. 12 jersey and attempted to wear a fans replica No. 23 jersey before settling for the No. 12, which didn’t have his name on his back. Now 25 years later, the jersey’s whereabouts are still unknown.

If that classic game doesn’t ring a bell with you or you weren’t yet born, see the video clip below with MJ donning the No. 12 jersey.

In November before Barack Obama left office, he named MJ became one of 21 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor awarded by a president. Of that elite list included philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates, actors Tom Hanks and Roberto De Niro, Ellen DeGeneres, Bruce Springsteen and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Criteria for the award is “meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other public or private endeavors,” President Obama said in a prepared statement.

“The Presidential Medal of Freedom is not just our highest civilian honor. It’s a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have an opportunity to change this country for the better.

“From scientists, philanthropists and public servants to activists, athletes and artists, these 21 individuals have helped push America forward, inspiring millions of people around the world along the way.”
