Nate parker

Nate Parker, along with Trey Songz, NE-YO, Lecrae, K. Michelle, Priscilla Renea, Wale, Georgia Ku, Sir The Baptist and Marko Penn recently talked about their contributions to The Birth of a Nation: The Inspired By album and their motivations behind their original contributions.

The Birth Of a Nation film opened earlier this month and tells the story of a slave revolt led by Nat Turner in Virginia in 1831. Director and starring actor Nate Parker spoke on the making of the soundtrack stating,

Nate Parker

“The main thing that really motivated me to want an inspired by album is I wanted to make sure young people had a way in. Not only did they have a film that they could see, that could teach them about an American hero, but they had some type of connection to people they looked up to, respect an artist that could also tell them it’s important.

Lecrae

Lecrae thenspoke on Nat Turner’s legacy, commenting,

“This is the story of a saint who was modered for his beliefs in his rights as a human, for belief in his rights as a man in America so this film honors him in a unique way that our history books would never have done. I had to take a moment after watching the film and just breath. Nate didn’t put alot of restrictions on us as far as artists were concerned. He just wanted us to communicate authentically how we felt after seeing the film.”
