From neighborhoods to national courts, school gyms to Olympic floorboards—basketball is a game that has left an impact no matter the community. Nike wants to honor that. The sportswear company spruced up the Hyperdunk Low to represent the global presence of the sport. Six new styles symbolize capital cities all over the world and the culture of basketball that lives on from the streets to the pros. Together, the sneakers make up Nike Basketball’s Hyperfam collection.
Each sneaker starts with a standard construction, an enhanced version of the Hyperdunk Low credited by the addition Nike React foam cushioning. But the React Hyperdunk Low 2017’s don’t stop there. The New York Vs. New York sneaker upgrades the traditional shoe with a blueprint of the five boroughs. The rainbow colors of the Failure Is Not An Option sneaker bring bold and bright typography in reverence to slain high school player Saieed Ivey and his Chicago roots. The Tale of Two Cities shoe highlights the different visions that come to mind when you hear “Los Angeles” and the Southern California area in its gradient upper, including the on-court battles taking place at King Drew Magnet High School. The Tenement Court Taguig kick acknowledges the unique cement surroundings of a famed basketball court in Manila with a fully gray shoe including a midsole replicating the texture of concrete. The emerald Show And Prove speaks to Beijing players having to fight to keep their spot on the limited amount of basketball courts throughout the city. And the yellow, orange and navy blue MDZ sneaker plays on inhabitants’ pronunciation of “Madrid”—a city in which sunset means gametime.
