Pete Rock and Smoke Dza Talk New Album and Lil’Yachty Collaboration [Watch]

Pete Rock and Smoke Dza stopped by the Breakfast Club to discuss their upcoming album Don’t Smoke Rock.

During the interview, Pete Rock and Dza discussed how the project came about and how Dza selected the beats from the legendary producer.

“Honestly, I trusted Dza because I have known him for years but finally felt like he was ready”, Pete Rock said. “I gave him over a thousand beats to choose from and let him rock with the ones he wanted.”

Pete Rock also touched on the importance of new school rappers to know the history of Hip-Hop and revealed that he wouldn’t be opposed to working with Lil’ Yachty on a track.

“I think it’s important for the younger artists to do their research”, Pete Rock continued. “I would rather for a younger artist to respect the artist before all that old head shit because we are still out here making hits. But when Yachty said that about B.I.G., I blew my top because he got skills and repped the culture. But I would work with Yachty because the kids love him, my kids love him, but I would teach him how to flow.”

Pete Rock also revealed that fans can expect a joint project with CL Smooth dropping in 2017.

“CL [Smooth] is my man, we’ve been on tour for a while”, Pete Rock continued, “We are actually dropping a new album in 2017 and it’s going to be crazy. I’m loving how it’s shaping up.”

Smoke Dza got a chance to speak about the collaboration on the album with Jadakiss and how Rick Ross, Royce da 5’9, Cam’rom, Big K.R.I.T., and Mac Miller ended up on the final project.

“There was no pressure with the people I collabed with because they are the homies”, Smoke Dza said. “I recorded my verse first and sent it to them but had to stalk D Block out for like two weeks [laughs].”
