The Roots have announced the official lineup for their 10th annual Roots Picnic 2017 which will be held on June 3 at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing.
The diverse list of talent will include Kimbra, Solange, 21 Savage, Lil’ Wayne and a joint headline set featuring The Roots and Pharrell Williams.
Shawn Gee, The Roots’ longtime manager and partner in Maverick Management, said in a statement,
“Ten years ago, this [Roots Picnic] started [off] as a concept, an idea, a conversation between me, Tarik (Black Thought), Ahmir (Questlove) and Rich (Nichols. It is amazing that it has grown into such a valued piece of the cultural landscape of our hometown of Philadelphia.
Throughout its history, Roots Picnic has been a barometer event where you found out who was up next, while enjoying the acts who were hot at that very moment. Continuing to embolden that tradition, Roots Picnic expanded to New York City last year, and aims to become a brand and force that touches the ears of audiophiles from sea to shining sea.
Philly will always be the home, the birthplace of the Roots Picnic. We are super excited to bring a packed lineup to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and as always there will be plenty of surprises and special guests.”
Fat, Joe, Mobb Deep, PNB Rock. Scott Storch, Thundercat, Virgil Abloh, Pete Rock, Noname, Khalid and Tunji Ige will also hit the stage with The Roots this summer during their jam session and tickets can be purchased here at RootsPicnic.com.
