Reality Show Based on Prince’s Family in the Works

Prince

While the estate of the late great musician, Prince continues their battle in court for the release of his posthumous music, TMZ reports that his heirs are attempting to block the release of all unreleased music, including his Deliverance EP until their potential reality show debuts.

Insiders close to Prince’s heirs tell TMZ that “the reality show, featuring family members, is in the works right now.” The purpose behind the reality show is to show their lives and how things have changed since his tragic death.

The site states that the legendary musician’s family intends to not only show their life after the “Purple Rain” artist’s death but also showcase his long-awaited stash of unreleased music within the show. His family says its why they have worked diligently to prevent the release of Prince’s Deliverance EP. When fans will finally be able to hear the new music, is entirely unknown, if it will ever be released.

While there is a yet-to-be-announced production company on board with the show, it is still in early development. It currently has not been presented, nor signed a deal with a network yet.

The producer behind the Deliverance EP, George Ian Boxill, lost a court battle with the estate recently as the judge ruled in favor of their request for a restraining order. The judge decided that Boxill “has no right to distribute the music to the public,” and was ordered to turn over all recordings to Prince’s estate. Unless the court extends the restraining order, it is set to expire May 3.

The lawsuit reads, “Like the other engineers that had the opportunity to work with Prince, Mr. Boxill signed an agreement, under which he agreed (1) all recordings that he worked on with Prince would remain Prince’s sole and exclusive property; (2) he would not use any recordings or property in any way whatsoever; and (3) he would return any such recordings or property to Prince immediately upon request. Mr. Boxill did not comply with his agreement.

“Instead, Mr. Boxill maintained copies of certain tracks, waited until after Prince’s tragic death, and is now attempting to release tracks without the authorization of the Estate and in violation of the agreement and applicable law.”

The EP has since been yanked from all streaming services.
