Prince’s estate is coming after Jay Z and his streaming service, Tidal, for making 15 unauthorized Prince albums available for streaming a couple months after his death, according to TMZ. The celebrity website reports the Prince estate sent a letter to Jay’s team, saying it had no interest in signing a deal for “Roc Nation to exploit any of the intellectual property assets of the Estate.”
Last month, Jigga offered to pay a whopping $40 million for control of the Purple Rain creator’s unreleased music last month. However, the estate does acknowledge that the Purple One made a deal with Jay for the 2015 release of his final album HitNRun Phase One. The estate also says that it has found no proof of a $750k payment to close the deal.
Tidal exclusively released Prince’s last album in December of 2015. Late that summer, Prince pulled all of his music from streaming sites, writing on Twitter, “Spotify is co-owned by record labels, who hold 20 percent of the company’s stocks.”
Prince said previously of digital music platforms, “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”
