Russell Simmons’ life story will be told in the upcoming FOX biopic Life And Def: Sex Drugs Money + God and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris has been tapped to pen the script.
According to Deadline, the biopic will detail the Def Jam Records founder’s rise from the borough of Queens to becoming an iconic figure in Hip-Hop and the fashion world.
The biopic will be a co-production between Simmons’ Def Pictures and Misher Films, with Simmons and Kevin Misher producing. Jake Stein, Bobby Shriver, Josh Bratman and Andy Berman are the executive producers.
Life And Def will detail Simmon’s come up in Hollis Queens in the late 70’s and early 80’s in the crack era, his beginning managing artists like Kurtis Blow to creating a power label that built iconic Hip-Hop stars including L.L. Cool J, Public Enemy, Kanye West, Jay-Z and DMX.
