Russell Simmons Pens Prayerful Letter to Donald Trump

Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons penned a powerful and prayerful open letter to President-elect Donald Trump in a blog which appeared on the Huffington Post this weekend.

In the letter, Simmons attempts to reason with the man whom he has known “for nearly thirty years” to have a change of heart with many of his policies and agendas. Simmons opens the letter by congratulating Trump on his win and called him a “a real friend” who has “been in my home, my office and I have been in his.”

In the letter, Simmons openly admits that he did campaign against “the Don” during the presidential race because of a disagreement with his policies but also said that he is willing “to work for and with” Trump.

“Donald, you cannot target a religious group of people. That is dangerous,” Simmons wrote. “You cannot separate families and deport people who have only known this country as their home. That is immoral. Donald, you cannot further militarize the police and empower them to antagonize and terrorize black communities. That is unjust. You cannot wage war against women’s rights. That is disastrous. You must stop with the hateful and harmful language towards women and people of color. That is unacceptable.”
