Siya Drops New Single “For My Sons,” Announces Debut Album Release

Sisterhood of Hip Hop star Siya has announced that her upcoming debut album SIYAvsSIYA, a versatile 16-track effort, wil be released on December 9th.

Rhyming over styles ranging from Brooklyn-style noir-ish boom-bap on “Body” and “OMD” to dreamlike electronics on “Only You,” the BK MC proves that she can go toe-to-toe with the best rappers in New York City. Signed to RnB Money, run by R&B icon Tank, and distributed through EMPIRE, she is the latest in a line of successful Bedford-Stuyvesant rappers, following such luminaries as The Notorious B.I.G., Lil Kim, and Mos Def. Though Siya is not yet on that level, SIYAvsSIYA demonstrates her boundless potential and magnetic personality.

Born in California to a drug-addicted mother, Siya re-located to Brooklyn with her father when she was seven. Soon after moving, her father was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. Raised by her grandmother who fought in vain to keep her off the streets, the young MC encountered legal trouble that landed her in prison, where she discovered her passion for rapping.

After her release, Siya moved to Atlanta, where she caught the attention of Tank, who immediately took her under his wing. In 2012, the femme fatale and Tank released the collaborative D.Y.K.E., its title track receiving over 50,000 downloads on iTunes. In 2014, she became the breakout star of Oxygen‘s T.I.-produced The Sisterhood of Hip-Hop reality show starring five female rappers who navigate their way through the male-dominated music industry.

Today, Siya wets our appetite with a loose video single for “My Sons,” a sinister and boastful track dedicated to Siya’s squad. The video finds the lyrical spitter roaming the Roosevelt Housing Projects in Bed-Stuy with a massive crew, bringing the whole neighborhood out to represent. Available to purchase on iTunes, “My Sons” is a celebratory track with dark undertones, highlighting Siya’s love for her city without ingoring the harsh realities many of her neighbors face in their everyday lives.
