The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige returns with her new album Strength of a Woman and details some of her pain and struggle as she goes through her divorce from her estranged husband Kendu Isaacs.

Strength of a Woman marks Mary’s 13 official studio album and includes the hit singles “Thick Of It” and “U + Me (Love Lesson).”

Mary J. Blige also shared the mic with Kanye West, Missy Elliott, Quavo of the Migos and DJ Khaled on the new project.

Mary also filmed a documentary that shows the making of the LP and states in the trailer,

“[Divorce] is not something I wanted to do, but I had no choice. I’m not writing an album preaching to anyone about what they should do. I’m literally trying to heal myself through writing, singing, through some kind of way. Getting it out of my system.”

The trailer also features appearances from some of the people who went in the lab with Mary to work on the album including DJ Khaled, Jazmine Sullivan, Hit-Boy and Neo while her brother Diddy narrates her journey.

The Making Of: Strength Of A Woman will air exclusively on VH1 on May 2nd at 11/10c.
