When Balenciaga shirts displayed a familiar-looking pattern, Swizz Beatz let ’em know that he was Ryde or Die.
The music mogul called out the brand on Instagram, claiming that they stole the well-known logo of the Ruff Ryders. The Hip-Hop collective recently announced a 20th anniversary tour. Come September, fans will gather nationwide in areas adorned with chunky chrome “R’s”—the emblem of the Ruff Ryders’ label. On the same day as the announcement, a similar emblem covered the puffy-sleeved button-down of a Balenciaga model at SS18 Men’s Fashion Week. Printed on black fabric, a series of chrome “B’s” and other red text stood out to show attendees—even more so, to Swizz who saw the design the next day.
The rapper-producer voiced his concerns on both his own Instagram and Balenciaga’s. “Balenciaga we must have a talk about this Ruff Ryder shirt ASAP,” he penned, “Dapper Dan with Gucci now this.”
Balenciaga has yet to respond. However, RR fans are giving them plenty to respond to in their comment sections. Their words of choice include: “fraudulent,” “culture vultures,” and “thieves.” Take a look at the Balenciaga’s shirt for yourself:
