The Washington Metropolitan Police Department has recorded 501 cases of missing children so far in 2017 alone.

“We have received a lot of media attention and a lot of concern from the public because of the number of releases,” Washington Metropolitan Police Department’s new commander, Chanel Dickerson, said at a news conference on Friday (March 24). “There have been concerns that young girls in the District of Columbia are victims of human trafficking or have been kidnapped.”

Annual statistics show cases of missing children have remained steady in D.C. over the past few years — with 2,222 cases in 2014, 2,433 in 2015 and 2,242 in 2016. And many celebrities feel as if the national news has been ignoring cases of the missing Black and Latina girls between 11 and 17.

Nicki shared a video with photos of the missing on her Instagram. Meek Mill shared his frustrations on IG as well, commenting on a screenshot of a Washington NBC news affiliate tweet:

And I haven’t seen nothing but trump on major news stations… I thought this was fake because i only seen it on social media!!!! Americas media is getting out of hand with the disrespect to the lack of coverage of our people and it’s becoming too blatant!! “WASNT YALL JUST SEARCHING FOR TOM BRADYS JERSEY” ???????

These girls matter, too #FindOurGirls #DCAmberAlert
