The Brooklyn Nets celebrated the life of The Notorious B.I.G. when the Nets hosted the New York Knicks at Barclays Center last night on Sunday, March 12. The evening commemorated Biggie’s iconic legacy and the 20th anniversary of his passing on March 9, 1997.
Biggie’s closest family and friends were in attendance to remember him throughout the night, with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Biggie’s mom Ms. Voletta Wallace paying tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. with special pre-game and halftime ceremonies. Other guests included Biggie’s children, T’Yanna and CJ Wallace, and his former managers Mark Pitts and Wayne Barrow and Lil’ Kim and Faith Evans..
Music from Biggie and the artists he inspired was also played throughout the game, and the Brooklynettes performed two special routines, and at halftime, DJ Enuff played for the crowd.
The event culminated with the Brooklyn legend’s #72 jersey being retired and raised to the rafters. The banner, which was presented during the halftime break, features the lyrics to “Juicy”that read, ”Spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way.”
Oh yeah…The game. The Nets edged out the Knicks 120-112.
